Synthetic Media Detection

Synthetic Media Detection

Deepfake technology outpaces detection capabilities, threatening information integrity. Watermarking and provenance standards—C2PA specifications—offer partial solutions but face adoption challenges. Detection algorithms require constant updating as generation techniques improve. The arms race has national security implications; election interference and financial fraud via synthetic audio and video are documented cases. Platform content policies and criminal statutes are being tested, but technical solutions alone cannot address the epistemic crisis of doubt toward authentic media.
